Transponder Keys
What is a transponder key?
The biggest change to automotive
vehicles has been the introduction
of a built in immobiliser system
on a lot of cars manufactured since
late 1994.
A transponder is a micro chip
in the head of the key which is
a miniature transmitter and receiver,
the engine management system (ECU)
can recognise the signals transmitted
from the key, if an incorrect
signal is given the vehicle will
not start. It is possible
for us to reprogram the manufactures
immobiliser system. It is
also possible to copy/clone most
transponder chips.
Lost of Stolen Keys and
Recoding Locks
If you happen to loose, or have
your keys stolen there are a few
ways to deal with this situation:-
-
We would come out and remove
one of the locks, read the wafers
inside the lock and cut you
a key. If your vehicle
requires a transponder key we
would have to program the key
to the immobiliser system.
-
If you were worried about
the security of your vehicle
after having lost, or had
your keys stolen we would
then be able to recode your
locks. This would mean
that using your existing locks,
we would swap the wafers or
pins around, to change the
arrangement of the key cuts
so that anyone trying to gain
entry to your vehicle with
your original key would be
unable to.
-
If your vehicle requires
a new lock due to wear and tear
or damage, we would be able
to recode a lock to suit your
original keys.
